Community nursing services, and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor or manager in a clinical/public health setting.


The duration of the course is of 2 years, however the course is divided into two parts

Post Basic B. Sc Nursing -This is the regular course where the duration is of 2 years.

What is the course about?

The main purpose of the Post Basic B. Sc Nursing is to provide an educational program through which the graduates will be prepared to assume responsibility in the primary, secondary and tertiary care of people as professional nurses. It is expected that graduates are capable of teaching and supervising appropriate nursing and health care in different settings and participate in the administration of nursing service and education.

Who should go with the course?

Assess health status, identify nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients / clients that contribute to health of individuals, families and communities.

Demonstrate competency in techniques of nursing based on concepts and principles from selected areas of nursing, physical, biological and behavioural sciences.

Participate as members of health team in the promotive, preventive, curative and restorative health care delivery system of the country.

Eligibility Of the POST BASIC Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Nursing)

Following are the eligibility criteria for different type of B.Sc. Nursing course

Bsc (Basic) - A person should be 10+2 pass in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. A person should be medically fit.

Bsc (Post-Basic) - A person should be 10+2 pass in PCB, a person who is 10+1 pass is also eligible for admission. A person must have obtained a certificate in General Nursing and Midwifery and registered as R.N.R.M. with the State Nurses Registration Council.
